Grays Harbor today mourned the death of Cora Alice McDermoth, one of Aberdeen’s most gracious and kindly citizens. The widow of the late Rev. Charles McDermoth, she died suddenly last night at her home on West First.

She was active until her death in the Ladies Aid of the Congregational Church of which her husband was pastor for 26 years. She was a member of Rhododendron chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

In 1929 she published a book of poems, “Almost Sleepy Time” which she had written for her grandchildren. A series of articles from her book “Early Days Recalled,” published in 1930, appeared earlier in the Aberdeen World.

Fire of undetermined origin virtually destroyed a shingle mill operated by Rollin Gordon just west of Elma on the Vance creek road early this morning, causing an estimated $10,000 damage.

The sawmill saws, machinery and equipment were burned, with only a portion of the shingles on hand saved. Gordon recently had installed $1.500 worth of new equipment, had expanded the plant and built a millpond.

With the Montesano Bulldogs firmly in control, it took a bulldog attitude to turn the momentum the Hoquiam Grizzlies’ way.

Relief pitcher David Hinchen quieted the noisy Montesano bats through the final four innings, while Tyler Drake delivered the game winning homer — his second four-bagger of the day — as the Grizzlies rallied for a 12-10 victory in a non-league boys’ basketball game Wednesday afternoon at Vessey Park.
