According to tradition, husbands are notoriously forgetful about wedding anniversaries.

But Army Sgt. Gaston (Gus) Galvan, 33, deserves some sort of medal for thoughtfulness.

The Brownsville, Tex. soldier is married to the former Nancy Coleman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Coleman of Aberdeen.

He departed Texas Feb. 25 for a year of duty in Vietnam, and his wife and two youngsters came home to the Harbor for a visit.

The couple’s fourth wedding anniversary was Thursday and Galvan contacted his father-in-law to arrange a surprise.

“And gosh was it ever a surprise!” said Mrs. Galvan after her parents casually drove her to the corner of Market and Park streets where stands a full-size outdoor advertising billboard bearing the message: “Happy Anniversary, darling. You have made these the happiest years of my life. Your loving husband in Vietnam, Gus.”
