Speaker series to focus on preventing senior fraud

Village Concepts of Hoquiam — Channel Point retirement community will host its bi-monthly speaker series, this time focusing on a problem that has become all-too-common — senior fraud. Consumers lose billions of dollars each year to fraud. People over age 50 are especially vulnerable and account for over half of all victims, according a study by AARP. Scams targeting seniors happen over the telephone, on-line and in person.

Elena G. Huizar, outreach services supervisor in the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney

General of Washington, will present on the more common scams targeting seniors and how to avoid them. She will also share information on how to identify and access Consumer Protection’s program services.

The event will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 24 at Channel Point.
