ELMA — Following a year’s absence, the national World of Outlaws sprint car tour returns to Grays Harbor Raceway for a Labor Day event.
The Outlaws’ appearance will highlight two days of racing at the county fairgrounds track. It will begin with a Sunday program that includes the Summer Thunder Sprint Series and racing in the Modified and Midget classifications.
The Outlaws will take to the track on Monday, with Street Stocks also appearing. Racing is scheduled for 7 p.m. both days.
North Dakota native Donny Schatz registered his 200th career victory in the Outlaws’ last Grays Harbor appearance in 2015.
Schatz went on to win season championships that year and in 2016 and is leading this year’s points standings with 8,412 points. Schatz has won 17 times on the circuit entering this week’s races.
Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, Calif., who has posted 55 top-10 finishes this season, is second in the points standings with 8,318.
David Gravel of Watertown, Conn., with 13 circuit victories, ranks third with 8,316. Daryn Pittman of Pittsboro, Ind. (the recent winner at Billings, Mont.) and former Grays Harbor winner Shane Stewart of Indianapolis round out the top five.
The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and 5 p.m. Labor Day.
