Several Twin Harbors softball teams are in the midst of wrapping up their regular seasons ahead of the district tournaments, which are set to begin this week.

Elma 11, Hoquiam 3

Elma overtook Hoquiam late in the game en route to an 11-3 win in a 1A Evergreen League game on Friday at Montesano High School.

Hoquiam (11-7 overall, 7-4 1A Evergreen) took a 3-1 lead after three innings, capped by catcher Faith Prosch’s two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.

The Eagles (6-9, 5-7) scratched across a run in the fifth on a Janessa Sample sacrifice fly and took the lead with six runs in the sixth, highlighted by a three-run, bases-clearing double off the bat of shortstop Emmie Spencer.

Elma added three insurance runs in the seventh — two on a triple by outfielder Mia Monroe — to take an 11-3 lead.

Madisyn Monroe earned the win for Elma, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in pitching a complete game.

Carron Blood took the loss for Hoquiam, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits in six innings pitched.

Hoquiam is scheduled to play Eatonville at 5 p.m. Monday at Dick Tagman Field in Montesano (if necessary), with league-seeding implications at stake.

Montesano moved into a tie for second place in the 1A Evergreen League with a 9-0 win over Tenino on Friday in Tenino.

The Bulldogs (9-11, 7-4 1A Evergreen) led 3-0 before blowing the game open with four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Bulldogs pitcher Riley Timmons helped her cause with a two-run single in the frame to push Monte’s lead to 7-0.

Montesano’s offense recorded 13 hits in the game, with second baseman Jordan Karr (4-5, 3R, 4RBI) leading the way with a four-hit game.

Montesano left-hander Reghann Fairbairn picked up the win, allowing no runs on two hits in three innings pitched.

Timmons pitched four shutout innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out five with two walks.

Montesano will play Eatonville at 3 p.m. on Monday in Montesano.

A win could mean the Bulldogs finish the season with the league’s No. 2 seed, barring what happens when Hoquiam faces Eatonville later in the day (if necessary).

Aberdeen places fourth in league after twin-bill loss to Rochester

The Aberdeen Bobcats lost a doubleheader to Rochester by scores of 15-6 and 14-4 on Saturday in Rochester.

Aberdeen (11-8, 9-8 2A Evergreen) lost the first game 15-6 in extra innings after giving up eight runs in the 10th inning.

Laynie Yakovich and Zoe Vessey each finished with three hits in the contest.

The game was a continuation of a contest played on Wednesday that was under protest.

In the second game, Rochester (12-7, 11-7) scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to turn what was a 4-3 deficit into the eventual 10-run victory.

Yakovich had two doubles and scored two runs in the game.

The Bobcats, the league’s No. 4 seed, have a district tournament play-in game scheduled for Tuesday at Mark Morris High School (time to be determined).

Elma couldn’t solve Seton Catholic’s defense in suffering a 3-0 loss in the 1A District 4 championship game on Saturday at Fort Vancouver High School.

Elma (16-1-2) trailed in the 20th minute when Seton Catholic (13-3-1) got a goal from standout David Moore.

The Cougars added a goal when Brady Angelo scored off a cross from Elijah Wall in the 50th minute and put in the third goal when Teagan Patracca scored on a shot from 30-yards away in the 65th minute.

Elma received a No. 8 seed in the 1A State Tournament and will face No. 9 Highland on Friday (time, location to be determined).

Chokers snap losing skid, split with Centralia

The Grays Harbor College baseball team snapped a 14-game losing streak with a victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Centralia on Friday in Lacey.

In the first game of the twin bill, GHC (13-30, 6-18 NWAC West) trailed 10-3 before tying the game with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run double by infielder Aidan McMurdo.

In the ninth, infielder Chase Cleveringa gave GHC the walk-off win, singling home McMurdo for the 11-10 victory.

GHC reliever Camden Ryan picked up the victory, allowing no runs on three hits with a strikeout in two innings pitched.

In the nightcap, Centralia starter Derek Beairsto and GHC ace Trevor Barth were locked in a pitcher’s duel, with the two teams combining for just six hits in the game.

Centralia’s Casen Taggart scored a run in the top of the fourth inning in what turned out to be the only run of the game.

Barth allowed an earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks in seven innings pitched.

Beairsto struck out 11 while walking one while allowing two hits in the seven-inning, complete-game victory.

On Sunday, GHC lost to Centralia 7-1 in nine innings (no further information available for this game).

Elma faces Bellevue Christian in state baseball regional round

The Elma Eagles were given the No. 15 seed in the 16-team 1A State Baseball Tournament and will face no. 2 Bellevue Christian in a regional-round game scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at Anacortes High School.

Montesano seeded No. 17 in state boys soccer tournament

The Montesano Bulldogs received a No. 17 seed and will face No. 16 King’s in a state play-in game on either May 17 or 18 (time, date, location to be determined).
