Campos, Castro each take first at Borst Park meet

Aberdeen cross country runners won both boys and girls races as we take a look at all the prep sports action around the Harbor on Wednesday.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY

Aberdeen takes top spots at home meet

Aberdeen’s Julian Campos and Aliyah Castro won their respective races at a cross country meet on Wednesday at Borst Park in Aberdeen.

Campos won the boys race with a time of 17:53.64, beating Centralia’s Devin Harrison by 25 seconds.

Aberdeen senior Cary Sherman (18:37.01, 3rd), junior Will Boling (19:15.78, 4th), freshman Jacob Hallak (20:7.12, 6th) and junior Nolan Jurasin (20:21.47, 8th) rounded out the scoring for the Bobcats, which placed first as a team with 21 points.

Centralia took second with 52 points followed by Elma — which was led by top 10 finishes from freshman Kaedin Betschart (20:01.96, 5th) and junior Elijah Flores (20:16.54, 7th) — with 62 points to place third as a team.

In the girls 5,000 meter race, Castro placed first with a time of 24:48.86.

Elma freshman Georgia Burkhart placed fourth with a time of 25:28.66 with Aberdeen senior Taylor Churchel placing sixth with a time of 37:48.30.

BOYS PREP TENNIS

WF West 6, Aberdeen 0

Aberdeen lost all six matches in a 6-0 loss to WF West on Wednesday in Chehalis.

Aberdeen was swept with the lone bright spot being Kyle Miller, who battled West’s Javyn Han in the No. 2 singles and lost 4-6, 6-2 and 6-2.

Aside from that, Aberdeen managed to win just eight additional games against a solid Bearcats squad.

Singles — Justin Chung (Centralia) defeated Andrew Troeh (Aberdeen) 6-0, 6-1; Javyn Han (C) def. Kyle Miller (A) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2; Andrew Boggess (C) def. Foster Patterson (A) 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles — Joseph Chung/Aaron Boggess (C) def. Ashdon Swope/Colton Faulkner (A) 6-0, 6-1; Hans Meier/Bryce Kuykendall (C) def. Daniel Garcia/Luca Pisani 6-3, 6-0; Will Cummings/Mason Walters (C) def. Kevin Eng/Brodyn Osina 6-0, 6-1.

GIRLS PREP SWIMMING

Aberdeen beats Timberline, Centralia-Rochester-WF West combo team

Aberdeen’s girls swim team picked up pair of victories this week, defeating the combo team of Centralia-Rochester-WF West in the pool at the Grays Harbor YMCA and winning a virtual meet over Timberline.

Aberdeen defeated the combo ‘CCR’ team 122-42 on Monday.

The Bobcats were paced by Keara Burns, who won the girls 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:43.21; Litzy Orona, who won the girls 100 butterfly with a time of 1:12.42; Mija Hood’s win in the 100 backstroke (1:12.79); Anna Matison’s win in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.24); and Katelyn Ancich, who won the 1-meter dive with a score of 141.95.

Aberdeen also swept all three relay races in the victory.

In Tuesday’s virtual meet, the Bobcats were led by Burns, who won the 50 freestyle (29.46) and the 500 freestyle (6:43.21) in the 99-46 victory over Timberline.

Hood won both the 100 freestyle (1:02.00) and 100 backstroke (1:12.86) with Orona (1:12.42, 100 butterfly), Matisons (1:15.24, 100 breaststroke) and Ancich (141.95, 1-meter dive) earning victories.

The Bobcats also won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay races.
