Bulldogs lose to Overlake 4-1 in first-round game

Overlake 4, Montesano 1

Montesano fell behind 2-0 at the half and never recovered in a 4-1 opening-round state-playoff loss to Overlake on Tuesday at Sammamish High School.

Overlake (11-3-1) broke a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute and doubled its lead with a goal less than two minutes until halftime.

The Owls took a commanding 3-0 lead with a goal in the 65th minute and put the game out of reach with their fourth goal, four-and-a-half minutes later.

Monte (15-3-1) spoiled the shutout with a goal from Glory Grubb in the 70th minute off an assist from Brooke Streeter.

The loss ended the season for Montesano, which won a league title in a season that many thought would be a rebuilding year for the Bulldogs.
