Toutle Lake 12, Hoquiam 11

Hoquiam had one of its best and worst games of the season in a 12-11 loss to Toutle Lake on Tuesday in Hoquiam.

The Grizzlies (5-6, 2-4 Evergreen 1A) fell behind 8-2 after four-and-a-half innings but began to battle back against Toutle Lake starter Kaylee Florek, scoring six runs over the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 8-8 heading to the sixth inning.

The Grizzlies rallied with two outs, scoring two runs on a ReyLynn Dunn home run to trim the deficit to 12-11.

But Florek recovered to get Hoquiam sophomore Emiley Elders on a ground out to end the game.

“It’s the best we’ve hit the ball all season long and the worst defense we played all season long,” Hoquiam head coach Keith Reynvaan said. “We have to start putting things together quickly.”
