WESTPORT — South Bend earned a district playoff berth with a convincing win over Ocosta in a SWW 2B Coastal Division game Friday night.

The Indians (3-2, 7-2) will now visit Napavine in the district tournament next Friday. Ocosta concluded its season at 1-4, 3-6.

South Bend head coach Shane Byington said his team did a good job of moving the ball through the air and on the ground.

“Drew Rose did a great job throwing the ball but I thought the run game opened up a bit and we were able to spring our running back for some nice runs,” he said.

Paul Bjornsgard opened up the scoring with a field goal to temportily give the Wildcats a slim lead.

Logan Stamos got the score that put his team ahead in the second quarter as the Indians looked to pull away early.

Raul Mora had good night kicking the ball too, hitting two field goals, but also caught a touchdown pass from Rose in the third quarter that put the Indians up 17-3.

Ben Byington chipped in as well and had touchdown runs of six and 10 yards to put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter.

On night that yielded impressive numbers on offense, Shane Byington also had high praise for his defense that kept Ocosta from getting to double digits on the scoreboard.

“I thought the defense played pretty solid all night long,” he said. “Michael Oropeza had a great night on defense. We were just trying to play good solid defense and read our key players.”
