District meet

LONGVIEW — Aberdeen placed fourth as a team but fell short of state berths in the District IV Class 2A Championships Saturday at Mark Morris High School.

Aberdeen’s best finishes were a pair of fourths in relays. The team of Jared Durr, Trevor Mullin, Sage Bridges and Conner Gates were clocked in 1:55.92 to place fourth in the 200-yard medley. Bridges, Durr, Gates and Brice Kola combined for the same finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.02.

Only the top two in each event advanced to the state 2A meet Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. Bobcat coach Rob Burns said there is a possibility of Aberdeen gaining some wild-card berths, particularly in the relays.

Mullin notched Aberdeen’s top showing in an individual event, taking fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Bobcats performed very well in the consolation finals, with Durr (200 free), Gates (100 free) and Kola (100 breast) winning those particular races to place seventh overall.

“There were time drops from just about everybody,” Burns said. “I’m happy with how the finalists performed.”
