Roundup: More Aberdeen swimmers earn state qualifications

Webber and Eisele lead Bobcats to win over Tumwater

ABERDEEN — Anna Weber and Annika Eisele stamped their ticket to the state meet as Aberdeen defeated Tumwater, 123-62, Wednesday evening at the Grays Harbor YMCA.

Eisele qualified for the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.60 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.99.

Weber also qualified in the butterfly with a time of 1:03.81, finishing second to Eisele.

Weber then won the breast stroke with a state-qualifying time of 1:10.44.

Several Bobcats also qualified for the district meet with qualifying performances on Wednesday.

Karime Baltazar sealed her trip to districts with a time of 39.46 in the backstroke and a time of 30.11 in the 50-yard freestyle.

It was a good day for the 200-yard freestyle proved to be solid event for Aberdeen as Lexie Portman, Camryn Cook and Giselle Rojas all qualified for districts.

Portman, Rojas and Rylee Watson all qualified for districts in the 500-yard freestyle by finishing first, second and third, respectively.

Marry Lang and Tatum Heikkila also both qualified for districts for diving.

“It was a really great meet all the way around. It was a fantastic meet for our top end with our state qualifying times,” said Aberdeen swimming coach Jan Simons. “It was also a really good for our new swimmers and our team is just improving by leaps and bounds. The girls just stepped up and rose to the occasion.”

Raymond-South Bend 5, Forks 0

Kyra Gardner scored a hat trick as the Raymond-South Bend Riptide defeated Forks, 5-0, on Tuesday at South Bend High School.

Gardner, a freshman midfielder, scored two goals in the first half and another after the break to lead the Riptide.

Playing at South Bend High School for the first time in program history, Raymond-South Bend’s defense thrilled the home crowd by holding Forks without a shot on goal.

Riptide fullback/midfielder Bre Bowling made the game 4-0 when her corner kick bounced off the Forks goalkeeper and into the back of the net in the second half.

Freshman Kiana Bale rounded out the scoring when she buried a cross to give the Riptide the 5-0 victory.

Elma 7, Rochester 2

Brooke Sutherby scored two goals and had five assists to lead the Elma Eagles to a 7-2 win over Rochester on Wednesday at Elma High School.

Sutherby assisted on two Jillian Bieker goals in the first 10 minutes of the game and then on a goal from Kassedy Olson in the 20th minute to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead at halftime.

After the break, Sutherby scored two consecutive goals on assists from junior midfielder Kayli Johnson in the 46th and 49th minutes, respectively.

Elma’s Molly Johnston scored off Sutherby’s fourth assist of the contest for a 6-0 lead in the 50th minute.

But Sutherby wasn’t done yet. After a Rochester goal in the 60th minute, Olson scored her second goal off Sutherby’s fifth assist of the game in the 77th minute.

Rochester scored off a penalty kick with just minutes remaining in the game to round out the scoring at 7-2.

“The girls passed well. They moved the ball well through the midfield and just played a solid game,” Elma head coach Scott Rockey said. “Everybody did a great job.”

Elma moves to 3-2 on the season with the win.

Adna 5, Ocosta 0

The Ocosta Wildcats allowed three goals in a 10 minute span en route to a 5-0 loss to Adna on Wednesday at Ocosta High School.

Ocosta (2-1) received strong play from Piper Furford and Katelynn Denny according to Wildcats head coach Mike King, who added his team was “overmatched in the midfield.”

Adna held a 4-0 lead at halftime and got its final goal with approximately five minutes remaining in the game.

“We played strong defense for 70 minutes but Adna put together a spurt with 15 minutes to go in the first half,” King said. “We’ll learn from our mistakes and improve for our next game. … It’s still early in the season and we’ll get better.”

Green River 8, Grays Harbor 0

The Grays Harbor Chokers were outshot 29-4 as they fell to Green River, 8-0, on Wednesday in Auburn.

Chokers goalkeeper Annalise Huntamer saved 11 of the 19 shots-on-goal sent her way by Green River attackers.

Grays Harbor drops to 0-3 on the season with the loss.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Ocosta 3, Adna 0

Ocosta’s Emily Snider was a perfect 16-for-16 in service and had a team-high 18 assists to lead the Wildcats to a straight-set victory over Adna on Wednesday at Ocosta High School.

The Wildcats (3-0) won 25-12, 25-14 and 25-20.

Layne Martin led Ocosta with eight kills and added two aces to her stat line.

Kaylee Barnum had seven kills and 14 digs while Lillyan Barnum totalled 11 service points and had four aces.

Black Hills 223, Aberdeen 239

The Aberdeen Bobcats golf team dropped a match to Black Hills, 223-239, on Wednesday at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.

Aberdeen was led by Jaxson Larson, who shot a team-low of 40 highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole after hitting a shot from the bunker that came within two feet of the cup.

He was joined by Nolan King (47), Gavin Timmons (47), Tye Williamson (51) and Evan Waara (54) on the Aberdeen scorecard.

Black Hills was led by Tyler Cassel, who shot a 2-under par 34 for the round.

“Our team score is still going down,” Aberdeen head coach Dan Sundstrom said. “Even the boys are noticing that we are heading in the right direction.”
