Prep Roundup: Raymond-South Bend, Ocosta pick up key league volleyball victories

Ocosta and Raymond-South Bend picked up key league wins on the volleyball court while Elma and Montesano earned victories on the golf course as we review Tuesday’s Twin Harbors prep sports.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Raymond-South Bend 3, Chief Leschi 0

Raymond-South Bend remained tied for the top spot in the 2B Pacific League with a straight-set victory over Chief Leschi on Tuesday in Puyallup.

The Ravens (4-2, 3-0 2B Pacific) won 25-8, 25-10 and 25-13.

“We were able to control the tempo of the game even with different lineups in each game,” Ravens head coach Julie Jewell said. “It was a good effort all the way around.”

RSB was led by Kassie Koski with six kills and eight aces.

Kyndal Koski and Kendall Harriman added three and two aces, respectively, and served at a 100-percent clip for the Ravens.

RSB’s Tressa McMullen and Fatima Delgado “had good defensive games,” said Jewell.

With the win, the Ravens are tied with Forks atop the league standings.

The two teams will square off in a key league matchup at 7 p.m. Thursday at Raymond High School.

Ocosta 3, North Beach 0

Ocosta stayed close with the top teams in the 2B Pacific League after a straight-set victory over North Beach on Tuesday in Ocean Shores.

Ocosta (4-2 overall, 2-1 2B Pacific) won by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-23.

Alexia Bradley led the way for the Wildcats with 14 kills, most of those coming off assists from setter Brynn Rasmus (20 assists).

Sisters Jolissa and Samantha Schlegel led Ocosta’s defense with 16 and 15 digs, respectively.

“We started out a bit slow getting our offense going,” Ocosta head coach Erin Snider said. “The Hyaks were scrappy on defense tonight and made us work hard to find the floor.”

Ocosta hosts Toledo at 7 p.m. on Monday.

North Beach (2-2, 0-2) plays at Chief Leschi at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

BOYS PREP GOLF

Elma 172, Kalama 194

Every Elma Eagle shot below 50 in a 172-194 win over Kalama in a non-league match on Tuesday at the Oaksridge Golf Course in Elma.

Though only the top four scores are counted, every member of Elma’s six-man team posted sub-50 rounds over the 9-hole meet.

Grant Vessey led the way with a 41, one shot behind Kalama’s Cooper Hahn for Medalist honors.

Trey Yeager (43), Cason Seaberg (44) and Robby Santos (44) also made the scoreboard for the Eagles.

Elma’s Kohan Morrison and Brody Palmer missed the top four with identical scores of 47.

“Overall, this was a great team win,” Elma head coach Collin McMaster said. “To have all six varsity players turn in rounds in the 40’s was a team goal of ours and to achieve it at our home course is a good feeling. The kids stayed within themselves and put together a fine team win.”

Montesano defeated La Center 182-188 on Tuesday at the Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.

Monte was led by Ayhdn Sauer, Gavin Root and Colton Grubb, each of whom shot below 50 for their 9-hole rounds.

Sauer earned Medalist of the Match honors with a score of 42, one stroke better than La Center’s Logan Smith.
