Two top 10 local girls soccer teams won while Raymond-South Bend and Ocosta renewed their volleyball rivalry as we take a look at Twin Harbor prep sports for Wednesday, Oct. 25.
GIRLS PREP SOCCER
Elma 1, Eatonville 0
Elma locked up second place in the 1A Evergreen League with a 1-0 victory over Eatonville on Wednesday in Eatonville.
The Eagles (13-3, 6-2 1A Evergreen) dominated possession against the defensive-minded Cruisers (8-5, 4-3) and scored the game’s only goal when senior midfielder Addison Burgher sent a diagonal cross forward that was chased down by senior midfielder Aaleigha Weld.
Weld then sent a shot past the oncoming Cruisers goal keeper and into the top corner of the net for a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.
Elma continued to control possession throughout the rest of the game while senior goal keeper Emmie Spencer cleaned up anything that came her way to earn the clean sheet.
“They really do sit back and are hard to break down,” Elma head coach Evan Valentine said of Eatonville. “(Spencer) did a great job of commanding her area and she cleaned some stuff well. … When we needed her to step up, she did a good job.”
The win secures second place in the 1A Evergreen League for the defending district champions, who will begin their quest for a second-straight district title on Tuesday against Columbia-White Salmon in Elma.
“I’ve been working with the team a lot on being self-motivated and I feel they are really getting to that point of being self-motivated,” Valentine said. “I think they’re excited, I think they’re ready and it should be good.”

Montesano 7, Hoquiam 0
Montesano closed out its regular season with a 7-0 victory over Hoquiam on Wednesday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.
Montesano (11-4-2, 7-1 1A Evergreen) benefited from a Grizzlies own goal in the seventh minute followed by three straight first-half goals from freshman striker Jaelyn Butterfield to take a 4-0 lead less than 20 minutes into the game.
The Bulldogs would take a 6-0 lead Hoquiam (1-13, 0-8) by halftime on a penalty-kick goal from senior midfielder Bethanie Henderson followed by an Addison Potts goal in the 36th minute.
Henderson added a goal six minutes after halftime to complete the 7-0 victory.
Monte had 15 shots in the game, 10 on target.
The Bulldogs have a first-round bye in the 1A District 4 Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Thursday, Nov. 2.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Elma secured a playoff spot with a straight-set victory over Eatonville on Wednesday in Eatonville.
The Eagles (4-12, 2-6 1A Evergreen) won 25-11, 25-18 and 25-13 over the Cruisers (2-13, 0-7) to lock up the fourth and final playoff spot in the 1A Evergreen League.
“We played a great match tonight for our last match of the regular season,” Elma head coach Kendra Dunn said. “It’s was a team effort and everyone played well.”
Elma was led by senior setter Aubrey Moore (7 kills, 3 aces, 10 assists), junior defensive specialist Allyson Warren (19 digs), sophomore middle hitter Jenessa Sackrider (6 kills, block) and senior setter Tatum Sanders (8 assists, block).
The Eagles will open district-tournament play on Wednesday (time, date and opponent to be determined).

Raymond-South Bend 3, Ocosta 0
Raymond-South Bend closed out a perfect league season with a straight-set victory over Ocosta on Wednesday in Raymond.
The Ravens (12-3, 11-0 2B Pacific) won by scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 27-25 over the Wildcats (10-6, 6-5) to complete a perfect Pacific League schedule.
“Tonight was different for us in that we started out strong but then we let Ocosta gain momentum and keep us off of our game,” RSB head coach Julie Jewell said of the game. “I’m glad Ocosta agreed to play us and it was good for us to have this game this week.”
RSB senior defensive specialist Kyndal Koski was a perfect 16-for-16 with four aces and 17 digs to lead the Ravens, which got key contributions from players up and down the rotation, including junior setter Berklee Morley (14-14 service, 11, digs and 12 assists), junior Emily Howell (7-7 service, 8 kills) and sophomore Ava Baugher (6 kills, 9 blocks).
Ocosta was led by middle blocker Alexia Bradley (11 kills, 4 solo blocks), Noel Cuzdey (14 digs), Jolissa Schlegel (13 digs) and Millie Tucker (100% service). Sophomore middle blocker Anna Davis “made some great plays at the net for us,” according to Ocosta head coach Erin Snider.
“We competed against a strong RSB team tonight,” Snider said. “Our team adapted to last minute line-up changes as we were missing one of our six rotation players.”
Ocosta opens 2B District 4 Tournament play at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Adna (opponent to be determined).
Raymond-South Bend plays the winner of Napavine-Ilwaco in the 2B District 4 Tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday in Raymond.
