Montesano’s Hailey Blancas has a share of the lead as we review the first day of competition at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Golf State Championships on Tuesday.

1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Monte’s Blancas tied for lead heading into final day

Montesano senior and defending state champion Hailey Blancas is tied for the lead after the first day of the 1A State Girls Golf Championship on Tuesday at the Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis.

Battling through the wet weather, Blancas shot a 77 over 18 holes to finish the first day of competition tied with Overlake freshman Kendria Wang.

Life Christian’s Makenna Kelpman and Seattle Christian’s Ginevra Saloy are tied for third with a first-round score of 80.

Elma sophomore and last season’s state runner-up Olivia Moore sits in a tie fifth with Forest Ridge’s Ava Jensen, five strokes back of the leaders.

Elma junior Sophia Hamilton sits in a three-way tie for 14th place with a 96 on Tuesday to make the cut.

Missing the cut were Hoquiam’s Eva Jump (109) and Elma’s Camberly Burgess (111) and Aubrey Moore (137).

Locals miss the cut at 1A Boys State Championship

Five Twin Harbors boys prep golfers failed to advance after missing the cut at the conclusion of the first day of competition at the 1A State Golf State Championships on Tuesday at Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis.

Montesano’s Colton Grubb (89), Hoquiam’s Riley Montoure (91), Elma’s Grant Vessey (92), Montesano’s Ayhdn Sauer (93) and Elma’s Robby Allen (95) all missed the cut after Tuesday’s first round.

2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Aberdeen’s Rajcich 12th after first day

Aberdeen senior Britt Rajcich shot an 84 to finish in a tie for 12th after Day 1 of the 2A State Girls Golf Championship on Tuesday at the MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake.

Rajcich was one of three Aberdeen golfers to make the cut on Tuesday as teammates Saylor Heikkila and Kaitlyn McCracken also advanced to the final day of competition. Heikkila sits in 21st place with a score of 88 with McCracken in a tie for 37th with a round of 97.

Aberdeen’s Ainsworth out after first day

Aberdeen senior boys golfer Baylor Ainsworth failed to make the cut after the first day of the 2A State Boys Golf Championship on Tuesday at the MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake.

Ainsworth shot a 94 in his 18-hole round, missing the cut by 11 strokes.
