Toledo 49, Raymond-South Bend 43

Anytime Raymond-South Bend made a move, Toledo would respond.

The Ravens came close but never got over the hump in suffering a season-ending 49-43 loss to Toledo in a 2B District 4 Tournament elimination-round game on Tuesday at Castle Rock High School.

Raymond-South Bend (13-9 overall) fell behind by 12 in the first half and made multiple runs to get to as close as a single possession, but was unable to tie or take the lead.

The Ravens trimmed the lead to six in the second quarter but Riverhawks (14-9) hit two-straight 3-pointers to extend the lead back to 12.

“That was pretty much the story of the game,” RSB head coach Jason Koski said. “We’d get down by double digits, work our tails off to get back to a two to four-point game and give up a couple threes to give them a double digit lead.”

RSB was led by sophomore point guard Megan Kongbouakhay with 18 points followed by senior guard Kyndal Koski, who ended her prep basketball career with a solid 10 point, seven rebound, four assist, four steal performance.

“Proud as heck of this year’s team in what we overcame established and accomplished in a short season. They have laid the foundation for the future of our schools. Thanks to both communities and a special shout out to South Bend High School’s band for traveling with us to our district games. Great support by all involved,” Coach Koski said. “We are definitely going to miss our two seniors – Kyndal Koski and Paige Williams – but hopefully the lessons learned on the court will help you in the real world you are about to enter.”

Toledo 14 12 10 13 – 49

Taholah 52, Pe Ell 43

Taholah had three scorers in double digits as the Chitwhins advanced to the 1B District 4 championship game with a 52-43 win over Pe Ell on Monday at Taholah High School.

The Chitwhins (15-5) led 28-20 at the half and put the game away with a 17-7 third quarter that included four made 3-pointers, two by Taholah’s Shirley Stafford.

Stafford led Taholah with 16 points.

The Chitwhins’ Maliah Pluff had 13 points with teammate Luvaela Smith scoring 11 points in the victory, which earned Taholah a trip to the state tournament and a date with Mossyrock in the district-title game.

Pe Ell was led by Brookelynn King (15 points), Karli Phelps (14 pts.) and Peyton Zock (10 pts.).

The Trojans (14-5) will face Mary M. Knight in an elimination game at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hoquiam High School.

Taholah and Mossyrock square off to decide the district championship at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Montesano High School.

BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

Naselle 56, Willapa Valley 45

Willapa Valley’s reign and district champions came to an end on Tuesday with a 56-45 loss to Naselle in a 1B District 4 Tournament semifinal game at Naselle High School.

The Vikings (12-12) fell behind by 18 points at the half after being outscored 17-4 in the second quarter by the Comets (19-2).

Valley trimmed the deficit to 10 heading into the fourth quarter and cut the Naselle lead to two points midway through the final period of play, but some big 3-pointers from the Comets’ Jacob Lindstrom down the stretch sealed the Vikings’ fate.

We dug ourselves a significant hole in the first half. We shot the ball poorly, and I thought our shot selection was poor as well,” Vikings head coach Derek Rask said. “Defensively, we missed some of our coverages and Naselle made us pay.”

Valley sophomore guard Blane King continued his standout play with 22 points while junior guard Nathan Fluke had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Vikings shot 17 of 67 from the field (25%) and 7 of 12 from the free-throw line (58%).

Naselle shot 33% from the floor on 15-of-46 shooting and went 19 of 34 from the charity stripe (56%).

Valley takes on Columbia Adventist Academy in an elimination game scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at Hoquiam High School.

Willapa Valley 10 4 16 15 – 45

Naselle 15 17 8 16 – 56

Scoring: Willapa Valley – King 22, Fluke 13, Keeton 3, Lusk 2, Ritzman 2, Aust 2, Swartz 1.
