Ocosta 3, Forks 1

Ocosta scored three unanswered goals to earn a 3-1 win over Forks on Wednesday in Westport.

The Wildcats (5-6-1 overall, 3-3 2B Central-North) trailed 1-0 after allowing a goal in the 30th minute, but responded just two minutes later when senior midfielder Natalie Carloza dribbled around two defenders then sent a pass to senior forward Miki Ness, who scored to tie up the game.

In the second half, freshman midfielder Brizeyda Ayala Rios netted her first varsity goal off a rebound in the 49th minute.

Ness gave the Wildcats the all-important insurance goal off a long shot in the 70th minute.

Ocosta outshot the Spartans 22-6, including 15-1 in the dominant second half performance.

“We talked to Brizeyda during a Forks injury timeout and told her to be more aggressive in front of the net. Two minutes later, she scored the game winner,” Ocosta head coach Mike King said. “We put together a more dominant second half and the girls started getting more touches and we got shots from seven different players. We moved forward Scarlett Nelson to center-mid in the second half and she made the difference with an excellent game.”

King commended Ocosta defenders Taeler Jardine, Kennedy Reynolds, Meghan Denny, Joanah Rosander and Gabby Ness for holding Forks scoreless over the final 50 minutes of the game.
