Aberdeen shows late-season form in soccer, tennis and golf

GIRLS SOCCER

Bobcats 3, Warriors 0

ROCHESTER — Doing all its scoring in the first half, Aberdeen blanked Rochester for its second consecutive Evergreen 2A Conference victory on Monday at Rochester.

Aberdeen’s Abbie Bradt opened the scoring in the 13th minute by converting the rebound of an Emma Green shot that hit the crossbar. Green scored herself moments later on a breakaway. Emmy Walsh assisted on the latter goal.

Bobcat exchange student Anna Foss completed the scoring by nailing a 25-yard shot in the final minute of the first half.

“The girls played a solid game on defense and connected on some great passes up front,” Bobcat coach Larry Fleming said. “We were aggressive and played tough in a very physical match.

Midfielders Green and Foss, defenders Nayeli Morris and Taylor Coker and reserves Bailey Green and Adrianna Vasquez were cited by Fleming for fine performances. Bailey Green took over for starting goalkeeper Reagan Glanz in the final moments to complete the shutout.

The Bobcats and Warriors played to a 2-2 junior varsity tie. Logan Glanz and Azucena Ceja scored for Aberdeen, with Savannah Hendricks and Nancy Tobar credited with fine performances.

Aberdeen (2-4, 3-6-2) host Black Hills on Thursday.

Eagles 4, Wildcats 1

WESTPORT — Life Christian Academy downed Ocosta in a Central League contest Monday at Westport.

Details were not reported. The Wildcats (4-5, 6-5) travel to Onalaska on Wednesday.

TUMWATER — Dominating the singles, Aberdeen closed out its regular season by trouncing Black Hills on Monday at Tumwater.

Aberdeen’s Josh Germeaux and Aaron Dyer didn’t drop a game in singles. Number one singles player Luis Garcia also prevailed, as did the doubles teams of Patric Haerle-Tanner Williams and Brice Kola and Nick Crocker.

The Bobcats wound 5-3 in Evergreen 2A Conference play and 8-3 overall. A scheduled non-leaguer Tuesday with Timberline was canceled. Subdistrict competition begins Thursday at the Tumwater Valley Racquet Club.

Closing out regular-season competition with its lowest team score of the season, Aberdeen edged Chehalis in an Evergreen 2A Conference finale on Monday at Grays Harbor Country Club.

Brendan King fired a 40 and Jaxson Larson 43 to pace the Bobcats.

“What a great match for every single player to score under his average,” Bobcat coach Dan Sundstrom said. “We dropped 10 strokes off our (previous) best team score. We kept telling our players that it is best to peak at the end of the season.”

The Bobcats will be idle until opening district competition Oct. 17 at Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis.
