Hoquiam swings by La Center, Elma in girls golf

Hoquiam had three players card rounds in the 50s to edge La Center 237-252 in a Southwest Washington 1A League match at Highland Golf Course on Wednesday. However, La Center’s Taylor Entenman earned medalist honors with a 50 to help lead the Wildcats past Elma, 252-308.

Hoquiam (3-2) was led by a 57 from Bailey Smith, while Josie Emery and Jordan Cox each carded rounds of 59. The Grizzlies avenged a loss by almost 40 strokes earlier this season.

“Although nobody scored their personal best, as a team we are on a trend of lowering our team score,” Hoquiam head coach Patty Sundstrom said. “We have really improved since we last played them and we are headed in the right direction.”

Elma (0-3) took advantage of La Center traveling to Cosmopolis to make up a match that was postponed due to rain earlier this season. The Eagles, who were the original hosts of their match against the Wildcats, were led by a 56 from Alexis Cooper.

“Alexis is the only one who has played golf before this season,” Elma head coach Rich Walker said. “They have come a long way in the short season we have had so far.”

Elma will take on Montesano at Oaksridge Golf Course today, while Hoquiam will host Aberdeen at Highland on Tuesday.

Hoquiam (237) — Bailey Smith 57, Josie Emery 59, Jordan Cox 59, Brooke Bogdanovich 73, McKenna Boone 62, Carsyn Munger DQ.
