GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

Eatonville 60, Hoquiam 16

Hoquiam’s losing streak stretched to five games as the Grizzlies fell to Eatonville 60-16 on Saturday at Hoquiam High School.

“Too much size, too much athleticism and too much pressure by the Cruisers today,” Hoquiam head coach Chad Allan said of Eatonville, which held a 20-2 lead after one quarter and put the game away up by 36 at halftime. “They have one of the best guards in our league with (Bailey) Anderson, who either scored or picked us apart all day.”

Hoquiam’s Achilles’ heel this season reared its ugly head again as the Grizzlies committed 36 turnovers in the game.

Hoquiam (3-12 overall) hit 5-of-30 shots from the field (17%) and gave up 29 offensive rebounds to the Cruisers, which went 26-of-68 shooting (38%) as a team.

Nadine Stewart led Hoquiam with seven points.

The Bulldogs (9-8) fell behind by nine after one quarter and struggled to slow down Olympia’s perimeter shooting.

The Bears went 10 for 36 from the field (28%) and hit 10 3-pointers in the game, which Monte head coach Mark Mansfield said “was kind of the difference tonight.”

Jillie Dalan led the Bulldogs with a double-double, scoring 10 points to go along with 15 rebounds.

Pe Ell’s defense held Ocosta to seven points in the fourth to hand the Wildcats the loss.
