Tumwater 12, Aberdeen 4

Aberdeen ended its Spring Break with a 12-4 loss to Tumwater in the opening game of a doubleheader on Friday in Tumwater.

The Bobcats (5-4 overall, 2-4 2A Evergreen) trailed 4-0 before tying the game with a four-run top of the fourth inning. Aberdeen scored its runs on an error followed by back-to-back RBI singles from Kale Goings and Mason Sorensen. Bubba Jones tied the game at 4-all when he drove in Hale with a fielder’s choice ground out.

But the Thunderbirds (9-3, 7-1) regained the lead with a run off Cats starter Trevon Nichols in the fourth and scored seven runs in the bottom half of the sixth, all with two outs.

Nichols took the loss, allowing five runs – one earned – on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts over five innings pitched.

Aberdeen 10, Tumwater 1

The Bobcats shook off the Game 1 loss to earn a 10-1 victory over Tumwater in the nightcap.

Aberdeen starter Hunter Eisele sparkled on the bump, shutting down the T-birds offense over seven innings. The right-hander allowed one earned run on just four hits and a walk while striking out 10 in an MVP-caliber performance.

While Eisele was stymieing the Tumwater hitters, the Cats were giving him plenty of run-support.

Aberdeen took advantage of T-birds miscues with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Trevon Nichols scored on an error to tie the game and was followed by Mason Sorensen crossing the plate on a wild pitch to give the Bobcats the lead.

Aidan Baker drove in Kenny Dawson with a fielder’s choice RBI ground out for a 3-1 lead and was followed by Charlie Ancich drawing a walk with the sacks full to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

Baker then scored on an error off a Eisele pop fly for a 5-1 lead.

Aberdeen added some insurance with a run on a Baker single in the fourth; a bases-loaded walk to Sorensen followed by a Kale Goings fielder’s choice RBI ground out for two runs in the fifth; and two runs in the sixth off two bases-loaded hit batsmen, with Ancich and Goings rewarded with RBIs for getting plunked.

Aberdeen scored 10 runs on just four hits, but benefited from seven Tumwater errors, five hit batsmen and six walks.

Jones led the Cats with two hits and a run, with Baker and Goings recording two RBIs apiece.

Aberdeen plays at Black Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monte went up 4-0 in the fifth when Bode Poler drove in pinch-runner Daylon Schroeder with a single followed two batter later by a run-scoring double off the bat of Josh Wills.

Leading 4-2 in the top of the fifth, Monte added an insurance run when Jaxson Wilson scored on Poler’s second RBI single of the game.

The Red Devils rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying runs on base when Busz got Brody Taylor to line into an game-ending double play to John Kline at first, preserving the 5-3 win.

Busz picked up the save, entering for Monte reliever Skylar Bove with one out and two on in the bottom of the seventh.

Bove pitched 1 1-3 innings of relief, allowing one run – none earned – with a walk and a strikeout.
