YAKIMA – State-ranked Brewster withstood a Hoquiam comeback to beat the Grizzlies on the final day of the Yakima SunDome Tournament on Friday.
Hoquiam cut the lead to six with five minutes to go but got no closer. The Grizzlies (2-8) got off to a slow start but picked it up on both ends of the floor to get the game close again in the fourth quarter.
With Bryson Eccles missing the second half with an illness and Matt Brown unavailable, also due to illness, the Grizzlies suffered on the glass, being outrebounded 42-28.
“Offensive rebounds were the major difference and I would estimate that half of Brewster’s offensive rebounds resulted in putback buckets for them,” HHS coach Curtis Eccles said.
Victor James led the way offensively with 16 points and Rayyon Dayton led the team with 13 rebounds.
Hoquiam will start Evergreen 1A League play on Tuesday against Tenino at home.
