The Twin Harbors community is rallying around a beloved Little League coach as he fights a cancer diagnosis.
Steve Bove, who has long been associated as a coach and former president and supporter of Montesano Little League, was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and is currently recovering from a major surgery, which has delayed his chemotherapy treatment.
His volunteer work with local baseball youth leagues didn’t end there as Bove has also assisted in multiple facets with Washington District 3 Little League regional and state tournaments.
Bove, who is also an employee for The Daily World, has been hospitalized for the past several weeks according to a social media post from Jan. 31, and a fundraiser has been set up to help with medical expenses.
“He wanted to say thank you for all the love, prayers and other things people are doing to help us out during this rough time,” said wife Angela Bove on Facebook. “Thank you to all of you so very much for thoughts, prayers, monetary gifts – which are hard to receive – and everything else. We love you all so very much. May God bless you all.”
The local community has responded with an outpouring of love and support for Bove and his family.
“Donate if you can to this selfless man and his family,” wrote Jessica Salstrom in a Facebook post. “Steve Bove has made an impact in my boys’ journey for sure.”
“If you know Steve Bove, you are lucky. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his friends and family,” Tina Caton wrote. “He has donated years of his life to the youth programs of our community. Chances are he’s been your child’s coach at some point. I’ve had the pleasure of working side by side with him for many years on many boards. There isn’t a guy more dedicated. If you’re unable to donate, please share and pray.”
“Steve Bove has spent many years volunteering and giving of himself for the children in our community,” Moraya Wilson posted. “Let’s all come together and help him in his time of need. Anything, big or small, helps the Bove family.”
A post on Elma Little League’s Facebook page stated, “Steve Bove is an integral part of our Little League Community. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Similar sentiments appeared in a post from Montesano Little League: “Send all the love and well wishes his way, and donate if you can. We all love you, Steve.”
