Thorald George Gadwa passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

Thorald George Gadwa passed away Friday, January 27, 2017, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. He was 101. Thorald was born on February 22, 1915, to Charles and Florence (Brahs) Gadwa in Le Sueur, Minnesota. The family relocated to Cosmopolis, Wash., in 1927 and he graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1932.

From 1934-1935 Thor served as a Supply Sergeant with the Civilian Conservation Corps at Camp Elma. He was then employed with The Aberdeen Fire Department for 25 years (1941-1966). In 1968 Thor returned to the workforce before a final retirement from The Washington Department of Transportation in 1977.

On October 15, 1938 Thor married Bernice Ann Dineen in Hoquiam, WA. They kept the family home in Aberdeen until 1968 when they made the move to Montesano. Thor went to live at Westhaven Villa in 2011.

In retirement Thor and Bernice traveled extensively with their R.V. throughout the United States and Canada. Thor was active in St. John’s Catholic Church of Montesano, Retired Eagles Activity Club, Cosmopolis Golden Agers, International Good Sams and “Blue Pacific” Good Sams. He was also an extremely good horseshoe pitcher. The family room wall was covered with his trophies and awards won through the years.

Thor is survived by sons Steve (Connie) Gadwa and Mike (Lynn) Gadwa both of Aberdeen, WA; daughter Kathleen Marsh Gadwa of Indio, CA; brother Francis “Frank” Gadwa of Marysville, WA; 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice A. Gadwa (2005); son Tom Gadwa (1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption); and brother Charles “Pete” Gadwa.
