Michael David Schneider, 69, of Aberdeen, Washington, and Kihei, Maui, died on Feb. 24, 2022.

He was a true Renaissance man. Born on Oct. 24, 1952, Michael grew up in Michigan and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Coast Guard in Alaska.

A champion lightweight boxer and published poet, he was a man of many layers, outrageous adventures and depth. He loved gardening, making wine and cooking the seafood of the Pacific Northwest. He also was very funny. He had a razor-sharp wit. With his grandchildren he was very silly and had a slapstick sense of humor. Michael lived every breath.

As a secular Humanist and vocal anti-war activist, Michael was passionate about the environment, peace and social justice and led a minimalistic lifestyle. A walking encyclopedia, he kicked everyone’s butt at Jeopardy. Above all, Michael cherished his family.

He considered the last 11 years spent in retirement with his beloved wife Anne the best time of his life. He was a devoted husband, amazing father and fantastic grandfather “Papa.”

Michael is survived by the love of his life and wife of 40 years, Anne Lokelani (Alcomindras) Schneider; two daughters, Malia Schneider (and husband Steve) Haumschild and Chelsea Schneider; and twin grandchildren, Jack and Ava — whom he adored. Other survivors include his mother Lena, brothers Chris and Matthew, and sisters Nancy and Melissa.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
