Larry Dewayne Deason Sr. 72, of Fort Smith, Ark. passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at home.
Larry was born on Nov. 12, 1945, to Norman and Wanda J. Deason. After graduating high school, Larry enlisted in the Navy where he served until March of 1966. He remained in the Navy Reserve until 1972. Larry began his lifelong career in law enforcement in Washington State in 1967, returning to his home state of Arkansas in 1984 where he retired from the Sheriff’s office in 1999, but continued his career in public service as coroner and other volunteer community services.
He is survived by his mother, Wanda Stroud of Fort Smith; two daughters, Dawn Galeana of Aberdeen, Wash. and Rexann Napoleon of Aberdeen, Wash.; two sons, Larry Deason Jr. of Paris, Ark. and David Deason of Aberdeen, Wash.; three step-sons, Matt Jernigan of Tennessee and Greg and Corey Jernigan, both of Van Buren; one brother, David Deason of Fort Smith, Arkansas and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service with military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the River Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris. Burial will be private in the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
