Charles Stover passed away on Sept. 24, 2023 at the age of 93. He was born in Hoquiam, Washington in 1930 and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1948. He soon went to work at the Hoquiam Veneer Plant where he met the love of his life, Joann. They were soon married and began their life together with only Charles’ time in the Army during the Korean War keeping them apart for the next 70 years.

Charles was a master of many trades. He did everything from plumbing to electrical work to carpentry work, so not surprisingly, he built the family home on the East Hoquiam Road. Charles later worked at the Blagen’s Lumber Company where he was a saw filer then he moved on to Grays Harbor Paper then finally Lamb Grays Harbor where he was in charge of the Spare Parts Department. After retiring from Lamb’s in 1993, he started traveling around the world with Joann and spending time with their five grandchildren (Stephen Crick, Charles Stover, Christine Stover, Chelsea Stover and Zach Stover) watching hundreds of football and baseball games. In his later years, he spent time maintaining his house, reading and enjoying watching sports.

Charles was loved by all who knew him. He always had an ability to make everyone smile and to feel comfortable around him. He always had a twinkle in his eyes and a charming personality that put everyone he met at ease. Both of his sons believe that he was the greatest influence in their lives as he taught them the important lessons of being a loving husband and father.

Charles is survived by his three children: Vickie Crick of Chehalis, Washington; Larry Stover of Hoquiam, Washington and Mark Stover (Michelle) of Evergreen, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his wife Joann, his parents George and Verla Stover, his brother Dale Stover as well as his daughter Lori Jo Stover.

A private graveside service was held on Sept. 29, at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
