Betty J. Middleton Nicholson, age 90, passed away on April 9, 2024, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam, Washington. She passed peacefully with her children by her side. Betty was born August 28, 1933, in Puritan Mines, West Virginia to George Pauley and Susie Ann (Smith) Pauley. They moved to Grays Harbor County when Betty was a young child.

Betty married Earl Paul Middleton on September 2, 1950, and started their family in 1952. Betty and Earl lived in Aberdeen, Washington until they purchased their family home in Carlisle, Washington where their nine children were born. In 1971 Earl unexpectedly passed away.

Later in life, Betty married Edward Nicholson. She moved to North Dakota for a brief period before returning to Grays Harbor County.

Betty loved her family time, crafts, flowers and going to the Casino. While she was in Pacific Care Center, she began making her yarn octopuses which she entered in the Grays Harbor County Fair last year and was proud of the ribbons she received. She made so many that she gave them to family and friends and donated to a few fundraisers.

She respected those who served in the military and last year decorated a white Christmas tree for the Pacific Care Center with flags, soldiers, and red, white, and blue bulbs. She also placed military family, friends and those that served that resided at Pacific Care Center’s names on the tree.
