Errors proved costly in Ocosta’s 5-4 loss to Forks in a key 2B Pacific League game on Friday in Westport.

The Wildcats (11-4 overall, 2-2 2B Pacific) committed six errors in the game, two alone in the Spartans’ two-run fourth inning as the Wildcats allowed four unearned runs in the game.

Ocosta rallied for three in the bottom of the fifth on a three-run home run by Joanah Rosander with two outs.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ocosta had the bases loaded with one out when Brynn Rasmus drove in Noel Cuzdey to cut the Forks lead to 5-4.

With the tying and winning runs on third and second base, respectively, Jolissa Schlegel grounded out to shortstop to end the game.

Jessie Gilbert took the loss despite allowing just one earned run on three hits and three walks with 16 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

The loss drops Ocosta to fifth place in the competitive 2B Pacific League while Forks (11-3, 6-0) remains unbeaten in league play.

Ocosta lost the second game of a double header to Forks 12-5 in the nightcap on Friday in Westport.

Forks jumped on Ocosta early in the non-league contest, taking a 5-0 lead after two innings.

The Wildcats rallied with a run in the top of the third and four in the fifth – highlighted by a Jessie Gilbert three-run home run – and trailed 6-5 on a Zaida Morales RBI single.

But Forks ended the Wildcats’ comeback attempt with six runs in the sixth – with the first four batters recording a base hit – to put the game away 12-5.

Forks had 16 hits against a typically stingy Ocosta pitching staff, and was helped by three Ocosta errors that led to five unearned runs.

Ocosta faces Raymond-South Bend in a double header on Wednesday in South Bend.

Grays Harbor swept by Mt. Hood in double header

The Grays Harbor College Chokers lost a double header to Mt. Hood on Saturday at Sandy High School in Sandy, Oregon.

The Chokers (13-25, 6-16 NWAC South) were held to just two hits in an 8-1 loss in the opener to Mt. Hood (34-3, 17-3).

Reese Wiseman had both hits for GHC, including an RBI double in the top of the third.

Carron Blood took the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits and seven walks with four strikeouts.

In the nightcap, GHC took a 2-0 lead on an Madison Erickson RBI double in the first and a Ronni Graham solo home run in the second.

But Mt. Hood scored four runs in the fourth on three run-scoring singles to take the lead for good.

Graham took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in 3 2-3 innings pitched.

The Chokers host Chemeketa in a double header starting at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Grays Harbor swept in weekend set against Olympic

The Grays Harbor College baseball team dropped four straight games in a weekend set against at Olympic College.

GHC (6-38 overall) lost Saturday’s opener 10-3.

The Rangers (12-22) scored eight runs over the final three innings and were helped by seven Chokers errors in the game.

GHC scored a run on a Hector Arrieta single in the top of the second.

The Chokers added two runs in the ninth on a Hunter Hilliard RBI single and a Michael Green fielder’s choice ground out.

Hunter Hansen led GHC, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

In the second game of the double header, GHC allowed seven runs in the seventh en route to an 11-1 six-inning loss.

Six different Chokers had a single in the game while three GHC pitchers combined to allow 11 earned runs on nine hits and 12 walks.

GHC opened Sunday’s twin bill with a 9-4 loss.

Mt. Hood did most of its damage in the later innings, scoring eight runs after the fourth inning and had 14 hits in the game.

The Chokers had eight hits, led by second baseman Derek Homer (2-4, 3B, R, RBI) and right fielder Jaden Herwick (1-4, 2B, R).

Three GHC pitchers combined to give up nine earned runs on 14 hits with seven walks and five strikeouts in the loss.

In the final game of the four-game weekend set, GHC outhit Mt. Hood 9-7, but ended up suffering a 6-3 loss in seven innings.

The Chokers were led by shortstop Hunter Hilliard, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

Third baseman Tam Bellefuil (2-3, 2B, 2R) and Herwick (1-3, 2RBI) also contributed to the Chokers offense.

GHC starter Eddie Gould allowed six earned runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings pitched.

The Chokers have now lost eight in a row and will play at Shoreline in a double header set for noon on Sunday.
