Vaccine clinic to be held Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma

Grays Harbor County Public Health will extend its COVID-19 vaccination reach into East County this weekend.

The health department is sending its mobile vaccination team to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma on Saturday from 2-6 p.m.

The two-dose Pfizer vaccine will be provided, which has been approved for everyone age 12 and older. The health department has also teamed with the local Pepsi distributor, Harbor Pacific, to provide a free beverage for those who get vaccinated during the event.

People can schedule an appointment for the speedway clinic, or the clinics held at the public health offices three days a week, at healthygh.org/covid19-vaccine-appointment or call the public health resource center at 360-964-1850 Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 12:30-4 p.m.

Clinics in the Pearsall Building, 2109 Sumner Ave. in Aberdeen, are held three days a week. Evening appointments are available on Wednesday for the Pfizer vaccine.

The schedule is: Mondays 1-4 p.m. for a Moderna vaccine, which is approved for anyone age 18 and older; Wednesday 3-7 p.m.; and another Pfizer clinic Fridays from 1-4 p.m.

The public health vaccination and testing facilities have been busy, especially testing at the curative kiosk outside in the south parking lot of the Pearsall Building. There were 96 vaccines administered the week of May 20, and 234 COVID tests performed, said public health information officer Maranatha Hay.

Vaccinations remain readily available at most pharmacies across the county. Find the one nearest you and set an appointment at vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov.

The week of May 26, testing picked up even more, with 273 performed, the highest week of tests performed through the kiosk. Vaccinations also went up that week with 141 vaccines administered at the health department.

“A large portion were teens,” said Hay.

The week of June 1, the health department reached out to local schools, performing 85 vaccinations at schools and another 65 at the health department. There were 119 tests at the kiosk that week.

Last week, 37 vaccine doses were administered at the health department, and last Friday there was another school visit scheduled with an anticipated 21 doses to be administered. There were 40 tests performed as of Friday for the week starting June 8.

Vaccination numbers in Grays Harbor County continue to lag behind state totals. According to the Washington Department of Health, as of June 11, just under 65% of the state population age 16 and older has initiated the vaccination process, and just over 57% is fully vaccinated. In Grays Harbor County, those numbers are 53.8% and 47.8% respectively.

Some good news was announced Tuesday, when public health said there were zero new cases, no new hospitalizations and no new deaths reported June 12-13. The last time zero new cases were reported in the county was in March.

The new cases reported per 100,000 population over the previous week number has continued to decline over the past few weeks, from 306.5 June 9 to 259.6 June 13.
