Three come forward over vandalism at Hoquiam High

Three juveniles have come forward to take responsibility for vandalism at Hoquiam High School in the wake of the Sept. 7 Aberdeen-Hoquiam football game, said Hoquiam Police chief Jeff Myers.

“The juveniles involved in this incident have come forward to take responsibility and are cooperating with the investigation,” said Myers Tuesday, shortly after the department posted surveillance video of the three young suspects on social media. “Everyone makes mistakes, it is what you do about the mistake that makes the difference,” Myers said.

The vandalism was in the form of spray paint outside the school.

“This has been a common prank in the past where the grizzly bear or other items are bestrewn with streamers or other decorations to celebrate the ongoing school rivalry,” he said. “However, this time the three suspects captured on security video used spray paint which could not be washed off. There was significant damage which has required extra steps and expense to clean off the spray paint.”

Myers added, “We appreciate these juveniles coming forward with the support of their parents with the intent to make it right.”
