Suspect arrested day after State Street shooting

An alleged suspect is in custody nearly a day after a Sunday evening, Sept. 4, shooting left a man with gunshot wounds in the 300 block of East State Street.

Ricky Lee Logan, 31, of Aberdeen, was arrested at about 2:49 p.m., Monday afternoon, Sept. 5, according to Aberdeen Police Department Lt. Andy Snodgrass. Logan was found in the alley that is situated between the 2900 blocks of Simpson and Aberdeen avenues in Hoquiam.

But, it sounds as though Logan did not go willingly.

“The arrest was based on a tip from an off-duty officer who spotted Logan,” Snodgrass said. “Logan attempted to flee from officers, but was apprehended.”

It took several officers from APD to arrest Logan. Hoquiam Police Department officers and Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in the arrest.

“An APD officer suffered a minor leg injury during the arrest and is currently being evaluated for the injury,” said Snodgrass on Monday afternoon.

Lopez was booked Monday evening in the Aberdeen City Jail on an assault with a firearm charge, according to Snodgrass.

“The prosecutor’s office will make the formal charging decisions,” Snodgrass said.

The 32-year-old victim — who was shot at about 5 p.m. Sunday — suffered “multiple shots” to the torso during the shooting, according to Snodgrass. After on-scene emergency medical care was given, Aberdeen Fire Department paramedics rushed the victim to Harbor Regional Health Community Hospital (HRH.)

The victim’s injuries needed more emergency care than what HRH could provide.

“The last update we had on the victim is he was at Harborview (Medical Center) in Seattle as he had been flown out from Harbor Regional for further care,” Snodgrass said.

The Daily World made multiple attempts Tuesday morning to obtain the victim’s current health condition from Harborview Medical Center.

While the events that led to the shooting weren’t known to the APD, Snodgrass said it “appears” the alleged shooter and the victim knew each other.

According to Snodgrass, the shooting was not the first call APD has had about the area.

“Aberdeen officers respond there and patrol there during a normal patrol shift,” Snodgrass said.

However, it sounds as if calls about violence there are rare. Snodgrass said typical reports are for “disorderly type” calls.

But, it’s also not the first shooting reported in the area.

“This is the second reported shooting in that area this year,” Snodgrass said. “However, in the first call the victim was uncooperative and we were unable to prove a shooting had occurred.”

The “suspect” in that case wasn’t charged. But he is in custody on unrelated charges stemming from a separate investigation.

Snodgrass said the case involving Logan is still unfolding. He also acknowledged the community’s help on the Sunday evening shooting.

“We want to thank the public for their assistance thus far and are still asking for them to call should they get information related to this case,” Snodgrass said.
