One dead in log truck crash near Humptulips

The crash is under investigation

A crash between an automobile and log truck on Friday morning resulted in the death of one driver, a 76-year-old man who lived in the area.

The call came in at 9:53 a.m., said Trooper Katherine Weatherwax of the Washington State Patrol, of the crash, which occurred on 101 several miles south of Humptulips.

The driver of the automobile, a Subaru station wagon, was headed southbound, and collided with the log truck, which was also headed southbound, while attempting to turn left.

Both vehicles came to rest in the west side of the road, with logs spilled around the area. The road was closed partially and completely for periods during the response and subsequent investigation.

The driver of the automobile, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the log truck was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Weatherwax said.

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, Weatherwax said; there is a possibility of criminal charges forthcoming.
