Multiple burglars break into DR, one locks herself in office

Multiple people broke into the D&R Theatre in Aberdeen over the weekend and stole property from it, and two suspects have been arrested so far, according to the Aberdeen Police Department.

Sometime between Friday afternoon until the theater staff reported the break-in a little after 10 a.m. Monday, glass was removed from the entrance doors to the theater allowing someone to enter, according to Lt. Dale Green in a press release. Because not all the surveillance tapes have been reviewed, Green said they don’t yet know exactly when the break-in happened.

Theater employees called the police Monday morning when they discovered the glass was and that some items appeared missing. Officers checked the building and found a female suspect who had locked herself in the office area of the building. The female refused to open the doors, Green wrote, and officers had to force the door open. The suspect was located hiding under a table in one of the offices.

The suspect, a 32-year-old homeless Aberdeen woman, was arrested for second-degree burglary. Employees were able to view surveillance footage and provide descriptions of additional suspects.

In the video, officers recognized a female they had seen earlier in the morning near State and I streets, and located the second suspect, a 49-year-old Aberdeen homeless woman, and located her before arresting her for stolen property.

Green wrote that this second suspect was in possession of stolen property from the theater. A third suspect, wearing a black hoodie, red-brimmed hat, camouflaged shorts and teal and white shoes, was seen on the surveillance video entering and leaving the theater as well. The release asks that anyone who recognizes the person call Detective Perkins at 360-533-3180 during business hours Tuesday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or dispatch after hours 360-533-8765 to speak to a sergeant.
