Fire damages garage on Evans Street

Just after midnight Friday, Aberdeen firefighters were called to a fire in a garage in the 1600 block of south Evans Street.

When firefighters arrived they found a single family home with fire and smoke coming from the garage and were able to quickly extinguish the fire without further damage to the building.

The building was valued at $85,000 and received about $40,000 in damages, fire officials said.

Nine firefighters from Aberdeen, as well as two Hoquiam firefighters, responded in three engines, one ambulance and one command unit. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes. During this incident the Aberdeen Fire Department, with assistance from the Hoquiam Fire Department, also responded to additional medical calls.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and may be the result of an unattended space heater located in the garage, fire officials said.
