Fire and police to hold summer Badges and Brews event

The event will focus on summer safety

Grays Harbor fire and law enforcement agencies will take part in a Badges and Brews event at the East Aberdeen Starbucks on Thursday evening focusing on summer safety.

Multiple departments from around the county from Ocean Shores to Fire District 2, from Hoquiam to the Sheriff’s Office, will be present with vehicles and demonstrations for guests.

“The event is another opportunity for citizens to come and speak with their police, sheriff and fire personnel while having a fun time,” said Sgt. Gary Sexton of the Aberdeen Police Department in an email. “For first responders an event like this gives us a designated opportunity to have fun and not be in the ‘work mode.’ I believe both citizens and first responders come into an event like Badges and Brews Summer Safety in a different frame of mind.”

The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the coffee chain’s location on 1202 East Wishkah Street. Police working dogs will make an appearance from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the department chiefs will participate in a coffee chug at 7 p.m.

“We are beyond excited that Starbucks once again approached us with this opportunity, giving first responders a platform to have some fun, while also getting out very important messages about Summer Safety,” Sexton said. “I would encourage everyone to stop by, whether or not you drink coffee; it does not matter. There is something at this event for everyone.”

There will be some children’s bicycle helmets and possibly life vests being handed out, with donations for further child safety gear welcome at the event.
