Filing week: Several city council seats draw multiple candidates

The list of those filing for office in numerous — mostly municipal — positions continues to grow, as filing week draws toward its 4 p.m. Friday deadline.

Some of the 37 city council seats up for election have drawn more than one candidate so far.

With Margo Shortt not seeking re-election, her Aberdeen City Council Ward 4, Position 7 seat is being sought by two candidates so far, Rebecca Sanchez and Tara M. Mareth. Current Ward 5, Position 10 Councilman Alan Richrod has one challenger so far, Debi Ann Pieraccini.

Ocean Shores will have at least two primary races. Three candidates have filed for the Ocean Shores City Council Position 5 seat currently held by Lisa Scott, who was recently appointed to the position: Scott, Patrick Daugherty and Robert M. Doering Jr. Position 7 has drawn three candidates so far: Patric Hayes, David Lynn and Rich Hartman. The top two in each race advance beyond the August primary to the General Election.

In Montesano, two candidates, Brooke Chapman-Hoiness and incumbent Tyler Trimble, have filed for the Position 6 City Council seat. In Westport, two candidates have filed for the Position 1 and Position 2 seats: Brylie Jarnes and incumbent Melissa Huerta in Position 1, and Brennan Jarnes and Troy Meyers in Position 2, vacated by the resignation of Bob Parnell this year.

There are two mayoral races, Oakville and McCleary, this year. Incumbent McCleary Mayor Brenda Orffer had not filed as of noon Wednesday, but earlier told the Daily World she would. When she does, she will have a challenger, Chris Miller, who filed on Monday. Incumbent Oakville Mayor Angelo Cilluffo filed Monday and so far does not have a challenger.

In two countywide positions, Norma Tillotson, who was appointed to be the county’s prosecutor when former prosecutor Katie Svoboda was elected to the Superior Court, still doesn’t have an opponent, and neither does Stan Pinnick, running for re-election for his fourth term as a Port of Grays Harbor commissioner.
