Description of Waugh’s burglar released

A more complete description of the suspect who burglarized Waugh’s Men’s and Women’s Apparel on Heron Street Monday was provided in a police report obtained by The Daily World from the Aberdeen Police Department.

The report, prepared by Aberdeen Officer David Tarrance, states black-and-white video surveillance footage “showed the suspect enter camera view in front of the store” at 5:48 a.m.

“The suspect was wearing dark colored jeans or pants, dark colored shoes with white on the side of the sole, and a gray hooded sweatshirt,” read the report. “The suspect appeared to be wearing a large blanket around his head and neck. The blanket could also be a pull over poncho or something similar. On the back of the blanket was a dark colored design. The design appeared to be a bird sitting on a stick.”

The suspect entered the store by smashing out the front window, according to the report.

“The suspect stood in front of the store for a couple minutes before forcing entry,” read the report. “The suspect struck the front window with his blanket and stepped through the window.”

The report said the suspect immediately went to a shelf and rack not visible from outside the store and began to stack merchandise on the blanket. He wrapped up the blanket, threw it over his shoulder, and left through the broken window, crossing the street to the south to a bush in the parking lot between Heron Street Attic and Pawn and the VFW hall.

“The suspect then put down the blanket of merchandise to adjust it then left southbound out of camera view,” read the report.

Another officer went to the bush and found three pairs of stolen pants, which were photographed and returned to the store.

Taken were an estimated 30-40 pairs of Silver brand jeans, six F/X Fusion sweaters, 20 Northface quarterzip sweatshirts and 16 Patagonia raincoats, with a total value estimated at just over $7,700.

While there is additional video surveillance equipment at businesses in the area, none were found to have any footage of the incident, according to the report.

The suspect is wanted for second-degree burglary and first-degree theft. The store posted Monday a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of the suspect. Anyone with information can contact Detective Weiss or Detectivr Perkinson at 360-533-3180.
