City of Hoquiam provides Simpson Ave construction update

Ontario Street storm system repairs slated to begin early next month

The City of Hoquiam provided an update Tuesday afternoon to the ongoing Simpson Avenue waterline replacement and Ontario Street stormwater repair projects.

Contractors began replacing several water lines that cross Simpson Avenue this week at the 2300 and 2400 blocks —two blocks east of the Hoquiam River bridge. Once this work is completed, the current traffic-control detour will be restored to normal traffic.

In early March, the contractor will move to Ontario Street and begin storm system repairs. The first task is to install a new manhole at the intersection of Simpson and Ontario near Domino’s Pizza. The new manhole will be connected to an existing manhole in the middle of Simpson Avenue. Once this work is finished, the contractor will pave and reopen all of Simpson to two lanes of traffic. This work is expected to take two weeks to complete and a new detour will be in place.

By late March, the contractor will be replacing the water main that extends from Ontario to 27th and additional lines that cross Simpson Avenue in the 2600 block.
