Chances to see the candidates debate online this week

Voters in the 19th and 24th legislative districts will have a chance to see the candidates head-to-head during online debates this week.

Alpha Media Grays Harbor, along with Greater Grays Harbor Inc. and other sponsors are hosting two events, both on Facebook. Voters will be able to submit questions for the candidates.

And the Wahkiakum County Republican and Democratic Virtual Debate/Forum Subcommittee, which was formed when the coronavirus pandemic made in-person debates and forums impossible, is holding debates on two evenings, Those are streamed live on YouTube and recorded.

And a third outlet, KLTV in Longview, will stream live debates between 19th District House of Representatives candidates on their website, kltv.org.

Tuesday, Oct. 13

19th District Senator: Candidates are incumbent Dean Takko, a Democrat from Longview, and Jeff Wilson, a Republican from Longview.

24th District Senator: Candidates are incumbent Kevin Van De Wege, a Democrat from Sequim, and Connie Beauvais, a Republican from Joyce.

October 13

7-7:55 p.m. Superintendent of Public Instruction Candidates Chris Reykdal and Maia Espinoza

October 14

7 – 8:55 p.m.

19th District State Representative

Position 1: Jim Walsh, a Republican from Aberdeen and Marianna Everson, a Democrat from Montesano.

Position 2: Brian Blake, a Democrat from Aberdeen, and Joel McEntire, a Republican from Cathlamet.

The virtual debates are available in real time on the YouTube channel named: “Wahkiakum RandDteam” (Note this channel name is in two words if you search for it.). The recording will be available a few minutes after the conclusion of the debate at the same location. If you missed the prior virtual debates for candidates for Secretary of State and for the Senate position in District 19, they are also available to view on the YouTube channel up to the November Election.

League of Woman Voters

Oct. 13

3 p.m., Marianna Everson and Jim Walsh, state representative, Position 1, Legislative District 19; and Rep. Brian Blake and Joel McEntire, state representative, Position 2, 19th Legislative District.

The event will stream live at kltv.org, according to the press release.

Watts said the League hopes to make recordings of the forums widely available, including on the Cowlitz County Elections Office website.
