Barb Page selected as new Beacon Elementary principal

Central Park Elementary Principal Barb Page, who was told she would be removed from her position at the end of the year, will now be taking over as the principal for Beacon Elementary in Montesano.

Page, who is in her second year as principal at Central Park, was told in late April that she would be removed and switched to act as full-time coordinator for the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, which prepares students for college.

The decision to move her sparked considerable backlash from her peers at Central Park, who were confused why she would be reassigned without any public reasoning provided by district officials. At an Aberdeen School Board Meeting on May 1, close to 100 parents, teachers and students from the Central Park community came out to show their support for Page.

Despite the show of support, Aberdeen Superintendent Alicia Henderson said after the meeting that the decision would not be changed. Henderson would not say more about the decision other than that it is a “personnel” matter.

Montesano Superintendent Dan Winter announced Wednesday that Page would be the new principal of Beacon Elementary, a job that has been open since late April.
