Committees have already been organized in Everett, Mount Vernon and other cities, Mr. Brier said, as a means of decentralizing and making more effective the work of the state committee during the forest fire season.

It’s open house time at the all new Harbor Dodge.

Grand opening of the recently remodeled dealership at 2601 Simpson Ave. is set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Jim Beane, the personable native of Eatonville who purchased the dealership from Joe Ramsey, operated the Dodge dealership in Eatonville for 10 years and will be joined shortly by his wife, Nita and their three youngsters: they’re waiting until school is out to make the move to the Harbor.

“I’m really happy to be here on the Harbor” he noted, “and we plan to provide top-quality autos, and top-quality service for those autos. I’m enthusiastic about Harbor Dodge because the people in this area are very warm and friendly.”

The dealership has received a complete face-lifting, including attractive new red and brown siding. The old service station portion of the of the facility has been removed to make way for more display space for Dodge trucks and passenger cars.

An original orchestra composition debuts Sunday when the Grays Harbor Symphony performs at the Bishop Center.

The concert marks the premier of “Rain Woods: A Meditation,” written for the orchestra by Grays Harbor Symphony conductor Robert Richardson.

In another added attraction, 14-year-old Bill Brown of Aberdeen, the symphony’s 1994 concerto competition winner, will be the guest soloist.

The son of Jim and Coleen Brown, he will play the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 19.

Brown has studied piano for seven years and is a student with Judy Reynvaan. He also plays the trumpet in the Miller Junior High White and Jazz bands, and accompanies the school’s jazz and concert choirs.

While he enjoys music, the Aberdeen native also swims with the Aberdeen YMCA swim team, studies martial arts and collects comic books.

Eddie Wright of Aberdeen used the Tortoise and the Hare philosophy this weekend as he walked in the 8th annual Relay for Life at the Hoquiam High School track.

Wright, 55, figured he averaged about two miles per hour, wasn’t the fastest walker in the 24-hour fund-raiser to fight cancer but … he was the only one to walk from start to finish.
