Camryn Cook, an Aberdeen High School athlete who is also involved in band and student government, has been chosen the student of the month by the Aberdeen Rotary Club.

She is the daughter of Derek and Tina Cook.

“Being in sports has given me an outlet for my competitive side and has given me many opportunities for leadership, such as being honored with the chance to be a captain of both the girls swim team and girls wrestling team. I was also given the opportunity to take on a leading role during Food Ball, as well as helping coach the Grays Harbor BlackHawks — our local Special Olympics softball team — in which we took the gold at state.”

Camryn played in band throughout high school. She has been in student government for the past three years, serving as senator during her sophomore year, and then elected vice president for the past two years.

During her junior year in wrestling she was academic state champion for the 140 pound weight class. She has been selected as athlete of the week twice, as well as voted homecoming queen.

A member of the National Honor Society, Camryn has earned a GPA of 3.97 and is ranked 10th in her class. After high school she plans to continue her commitment to service by attending Washington State University to work toward a degree in nursing.

Each year, the Aberdeen Rotary Club honors Aberdeen High School Seniors through the Student of the Month recognition and scholarship program. One senior is recognized each month between October and May. Two of these eight students are then selected in June for either the $1000 “Blue” or $2000 “Gold” scholarship to the school of their choice.
