Hoquiam man charged with vehicular homicide

A 23-year-old Hoquiam man was charged in Grays Harbor District Court Thursday with vehicular homicide, manslaughter in the second degree and hit-and-run in connection with a collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Aberdeen on Tuesday morning.

Zachary Ryan Youngblood was identified in charging documents as having caused the death of Jeri Stiles by hitting her with his truck at about 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday near St. Andrews Church on First Street in Aberdeen.

Police used surveillance footage to determine that a mid-90s Ford extended-cab pickup with a tool box in the rear bed and stickers on the rear window was involved in the collision, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Witnesses to the collision described the truck to police as a black Ford or Chevy with two 1911 gun stickers in the middle of the back window.

Police located the truck and arrested Youngblood at midnight on Tuesday. Headmitted to driving the truck with a suspended license and after initially denying knowing that he hit somebody, admitted that he did not see the woman, but struck her in the road, the affidavit alleges.

Younglood also admitted to fleeing the scene, after which he and his girlfriend went to Ocean Shores to get matching Mickey Mouse tattoos, according to the affidavit.

Youngblood is being held in the Grays Harbor County Jail on $50,000 bond.
