Hoquiam Council passes resolution opposing offshore oil and gas drilling

Council passed resolution unanimously Monday

A resolution opposing any offshore oil and gas drilling was unanimously passed by the Hoquiam City Council at Monday night’s meeting.

“The City of Hoquiam finds that offshore oil and gas drilling and exploration unnecessarily risks our economic and ecological health and therefore oppose any plan or legislation which encourages or allows oil and gas development and exploration offshore that would impact the citizens of Grays Harbor County and Washington State,” it read in part.

Hoquiam joins with other cities, including Ocean Shores, that recently passed similar resolutions. Grays Harbor County Commissioners have drafted their own resolution but have yet to pass it.
