Elks win in three
AMANDA PARK — Lake Quinault sailed into the semifinals of the District IV Class 1B Tournament by beating Columbia Adventist, 25-14, 25-14, 25-16, in an opening-round match Tuesday at Amanda Park.
By surviving the loser-out opening round, the twice-beaten Elks will face Three Rivers Christian in a semifinal scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Tumwater High School.
Each semifinalist will play twice on Thursday. Only the district champion will earn an automatic state berth, with the second and third place finishers returning to Tumwater on Friday to face representatives from District V for other state berths.
Lake Quinault’s Karianna Cole-Fowler came off the bench to serve six straight points in the opening set. The Elks maintained the momentum over the final two sets.
“Everybody had good serves,” Quinault coach Sue Kalama said. “Both my setters (Liz Guaadaramma and Katlynn Neeland) were outstanding.”
Kayleen Spigler was also cited by Kalama for fine serving.
Loggerettes bow out
WISHKAH — Firm Foundation ended Wishkah’s season by eliminating the Loggerettes from the District IV 1B Tournament, 25-17, 25-15, 25-9, in an opening-round match Tuesday at Brian Eager Memorial Gym.
Despite the loss, Wishkah coaches Darci McMaster and Katerina Eaton were upbeat about a season in which the Loggerettes earned a share of the Coastal 1B League championship.
“We are beyond proud of our team this season,” McMaster said. “The girls made some amazing comebacks, made huge improvements and played with heart.”
Taholah also was eliminated by Naselle in a first-round match on the Comets’ court. Details from that contest were not reported.
