Hoquiam and Ocosta opened their volleyball seasons with wins while Willapa Valley continues its hot start as we review Tuesday’s prep sports on the Harbor.

PREP VOLLEYBALL
Hoquiam 3, Forks 1
Hoquiam opened its season with a 3-1 win over Forks on Tuesday at Hoquiam Square Garden.
The Grizzlies (1-0) dropped the first set to the Spartans 25-20 before rallying to sweep the next three games by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-14.
“We started off really slow and it took a set to get going,” Hoquiam head coach Heather Bozich said. “A lot of missed serves the first set, which I attribute to nerves, but we turned it around and played really well the following three sets.”
Ashlyn Aberdeen (10 digs, 5 aces), Avery Brodhead (20-22 service), Mya Standstiper (22 assists) and Aaliyah Kennedy (14 kills) led the Grizzlies.
“All in all, I am really proud of how we bounced back and fought for this win,” Bozich said. “Our block did a really good job of disrupting their offense, namely Clara Quigg, Sydney Gordon and Piper Stankavich. Really excited going forward with this team.”
Hoquiam faces Aberdeen in a Myrtle Street Rivalry match at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Sam Benn Gym in Aberdeen.

Willapa Valley 3, Wishkah Valley 0
Willapa Valley continued to roll through its early-season schedule with a straight-set win over Wishkah Valley on Tuesday in Menlo.
The Vikings (3-0, 1-0 1B Coastal) won 25-7, 25-9 and 25-4 in its home and 1B Coastal League-opener to claim its third victory in six days.
“Lots of energy on the court and in the stands this evening at our first home game of the season,” Vikings head coach Chelsea Kempton said. “The girls hustled tonight and are improving day by day. I’d still like to see us maintain a level of consistency no matter what a game may bring.”
Senior libero Rilyn Channell had six aces senior setter Lauren Matlock dished out nine assists, and senior outside hitter Eliza Barnum had five kills to lead Willapa Valley.
Wishkah (0-1, 0-1) hosts Naselle at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The Vikings play at Lake Quinault at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Ocosta 3, Lake Quinault 0
Ocosta’s Bella Pratt broke a school record during the Wildcats’ straight-set victory over Lake Quinault on Tuesday at Ocosta High School.
Pratt went 29 of 31 from the service line with 21 aces – setting a new Ocosta record for aces in a match – to lead the Wildcats to a 25-7, 25-20 and 25-10 season-opening victory.
“It’s always nice to start out the season with a win. We got an opportunity to play three of our freshman players and all three contributed tonight in both offensive and defensive roles,” Ocosta head coach Erin Snider said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can do. We have both veteran talent and new freshman energy. I believe it’ll take us far.”
Ocosta’s Ava Tucker had 10 assists, freshman Addyson Bodwell went 8 for 8 from the service line and Ava Weimar had a perfect dig percentage in the victory.
Ocosta plays at Pe Ell at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

BOYS PREP GOLF
King’s Way Christian 164, Elma 203
Playing at Club Green Meadows for the first time, the Elma Eagles lost Tuesday’s match to King’s Way Christian 164-203 in Vancouver.
Lucas Norris was the only Eagle to shoot a sub-50 round in the match, carding a score of 48 to lead Elma.
King’s Way Christian’s Christian Harlow shot a 1-over par 37 to earn Medalist of the Match honors.
”First match on a different course kept our boys guessing today with situations they haven’t seen yet this season,” Elma head coach Collin McMaster said. “It was nice to get them onto a new course to help us realize our current strengths and weaknesses so that we can get back to work.”
Elma hosts Rochester at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Oaksridge Golf Course.

Aberdeen 216, Shelton 256
Aberdeen opened its season with a 216-256 win over Shelton on Tuesday at Highland Golf Course in Cosmopolis.
The Bobcats were led by Isaac McCarty and William Yee, each of whom shot a 41 over nine holes to earn co-Medalist of the Match honors.
No Aberdeen golfer shot higher than a 46 in the victory.
“This is a huge improvement over last season and I am very excited to see where we go,” Bobcats head coach Brandon Ainsworth said. “I thought nerves were going to get to them but they handled today very well and posted some personal bests over last season.”
Aberdeen hosts Centralia at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
