Elma gets back on track with twin-bill sweep of DeSales

PREP BASEBALL
Elma 10, DeSales 0
Led by a standout pitching performance from Troy Rupe, the Elma Eagles shutout DeSales 10-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday at DeSales High School.
The Eagles (3-5 overall) scored in all but one inning against the Fighting Irish (7-2) while Rupe allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out 14 in tossing a complete-game shutout.
Elma led 2-0 on an RBI single from shortstop Hunter Young in the top of the second and added two runs on singles by catcher Levi Russell and first baseman Carson Griensewic.
The Eagles took advantage of several Irish miscues to score six runs over the final three innings, highlighted by an RBI double from Rupe to score third baseman Bryston Crawford in the top of the sixth.
Elma had seven hits in the game but drew 12 walks against three DeSales pitchers and benefited by five Fighting Irish errors in the game.
Rupe had two hits, both for extra bases, while center fielder Isaac McGaffey drew four walks and scored three runs for the Eagles.

Elma 10, DeSales 4
A bog second inning led to a 10-4 Elma victory over DeSales in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Tuesday at DeSales High School.
Leading 1-0 in the top of the second inning, the Eagles (4-5) took control with eight runs against the Fighting Irish (7-3), highlighted by a two-run double from Hunter Young.
Elma led 10-0 when left fielder Jamieson Modersohn scored on an error in the third.
DeSales responded with a run in the fourth on a single by Ben Garcia and three in the fifth to cut the Eagles lead to 10-4.
That was as close as the Irish would get as DeSales left four men on base combined over the last two innings against Young.
Young and Modersohn had two hits apiece to lead Elma, which drew nine walks as a team to bring its twin-bill total to 21.
Blake Benzschawel earned the win, allowing four earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Elma faces Rochester in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Rochester.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 6, Forks 5
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley held off a final-inning Forks rally for a 6-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Pe Ell.
The Titans (5-3, 1-2 2B Pacific) took a 2-1 lead over the Spartans (3-3, 2-1) on bases-loaded walks to second baseman Braden Neva and right fielder Liam Lennox in the bottom of the first inning.
PWV would benefit from two key Forks errors in the fifth inning to score three runs, taking a 5-1 lead on an RBI single from Max Jarvis.
Forks would rally with three two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and had the tying run on third base.
But Jarvis got Cashtien Barajas to ground out to shortstop Mauricio Morales to end the game.
Morales started on the bump for the Titans, allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings pitched to earn the win.
Jarvis allowed four runs on two hits and five walks with two strikeouts in two innings of relief.
Jarvis led PWV at the dish, going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 4, Forks 3
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley went from heartbreak to adulation in a 4-3 win over Forks in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday in Pe Ell.
The Titans (6-3, 2-2 2B Pacific) took a 2-1 lead over the Spartans (3-4, 2-2) when center fielder Kash Ruddell, on with a leadoff walk, came around to score on a clutch double off the bat of Max Jarvis.
But Spartans first baseman Radley Bennett doubled to drive in Landen Olson with the tying runs and then came in to score the go-ahead run on a pass ball in the top of the seventh.
Down to their last at-bat, the Titans tied the game when catcher Camden Wetterauer singled to advance Brody Magruder, on board with a one-out walk, to third base.
Magruder then scored the tying run on a passed ball to make it a 3-3 ballgame.
Ruddell and Jarvis followed with back-to-back walks – Jarvis intentionally – to load the bases with one out.
After Kaeden Blain struck out swinging, PWV third baseman Mauricio Morales singled to score Wetterauer with the game-winning run.
Titans reliever Braden Neva earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings pitched.
Blain stared for PWV, allowing one unearned run on a hit and two walks with 10 strikeouts in five innings pitched.
The Titans play at Adna at 3 p.m. on Monday.

North Beach 22, Wishkah Valley 0
A big first inning set the tone in North Beach’s 22-0 win over Wishkah Valley on Tuesday at North Bay Park in Ocean Shores.
The Hyaks (4-3) scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning against the Loggers (0-1) – benefiting from six walks, two hit batters and an error – to take command of the game.
Davy Carpenter had two RBI singles and drove in three runs in the frame, which also included a two-run double by Hyaks left fielder Hunter Marston.
North Beach added six in the second, capped by a run-scoring single from catcher Houston Pope, and finished off the Loggers with five in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Marston.
North Beach batters drew 17 walks in the game while the Wishkah defense committed five errors, leading to five unearned runs for the Hyaks.
Carpenter went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBI while Marston scored three runs and drove in five to lead North Beach.
Owen O’Hare threw three innings of one-hit shutout baseball with a walk and eight strikeouts to pick up the win.
Carpenter pitched one inning of scoreless relief in the top of the fourth, striking out the side to end the game.
The Hyaks host Forks in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
