Prep Softball Roundup: Aberdeen powers past Black Hills

Aberdeen and Pe Ell-Willapa Valley continued to remain near the top of their respective rankings with victories as we review prep softball games on the Harbor.

Aberdeen 11, Black Hills 0
Aberdeen’s offense put this one away early with a 10-0 victory over Black Hills on Wednesday in Tumwater.
The Bobcats (14-2 overall, 9-2 1A Evergreen) jumped on the Wolves (7-8, 4-7) for nine runs over the first two innings of play powered by the long ball.
In the opening frame, Aberdeen first baseman Maysinn Jones put the Cats on the board with a three-run home run to left field.
Aberdeen added six runs in the second on a two-run single from third baseman Britten Neal and a grand slam home run to left field off the bat of pitcher Lilly Camp.
Camp added a sacrifice fly in the fourth, driving in Cheyanna Kohn with the Bobcats’ 10th run of the game.
In addition to driving in a game-high five runs, Camp earned the win in the circle, holding the Wolves without a hit while walking two and striking out 13 over five innings.
Jones, catcher Alyssa Yakovich, left fielder Audree Gaddis and outfielder Kadence Braaten had two hits apiece for Aberdeen.
The third-ranked Bobcats host No. 2 Tumwater in a key 2A Evergreen League matchup at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 19, Hoquiam 6
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s offense powered its way to a 19-6 mercy-rule win over Hoquiam on Wednesday in Hoquiam.
The Titans (14-3), the eighth-ranked team in the 2B class, had 18 hits in the game, led by second baseman C.J. Sipp, who went a perfect 4 for 4 with three runs scored.
Center fielder Lauren Matlock also had a big day at the dish with three hits – including a triple and two doubles – scored four runs and had four RBI for PWV.
The Titans had six extra-base hits in the game, including a three-run home run by first baseman Addison Merkel in the top of the fifth to put PWV up 18-6.
Hoquiam (2-12) was led by Avery Templer and Lexi LaBounty with two hits apiece.
First baseman Malia Ervin hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the third to get Hoquiam on the scoreboard.
The Grizzlies would score six runs in the frame, which included a two-run single from Templer and an RBI base hit off the bat of Aaliyah Kennedy.
Eliza Barnum earned the win, allowing six earned runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts in three innings pitched.
PWV hosts Elma at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Hoquiam takes on Tenino at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Tenino.
