An elderly man was transported from the Ocean Shores Community Club after suffering a drowning on Thursday afternoon.

A staff member called 911 after a man was reported non-responsive in the pool, said Fire Chief Brian Ritter. A police officer had rolled him on his side and began assessing his condition when firefighters arrived, Ritter said, and began care. Some function was restored before he was transported to Harbor Regional Health for advanced care.

Always swim with somebody, Ritter said. It doesn’t take a lot of water to drown.

“We prefer people to swim with life vests,” Ritter said. “Any time you’re around water, wear a life vest for safety.”
