A woman was struck by an unidentified truck in a hit-and-run on U.S. Highway 12 south of Elma on Tuesday morning before a passerby took her to the hospital.

The Washington State Patrol is now investigating the crash, said Trooper Katherine Weatherwax.

A passerby call to 911 at about 7:18 a.m., Weatherwax said, that a 49-year-old woman, an Elma resident, had been struck by a vehicle that then left the scene.

The vehicle involved could be a truck towing a trailer, Weatherwax said; troopers are working to find more information about the vehicle involved and the driver.
